As we step into 2026, it feels like the right moment to pause, look back, and say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to a wonderful Mahjong community.
This journey certainly kept me on my toes—but every time I saw your eager smiles around the table, the laughter, the focus, and the joy of play, I knew every bit of effort was worthwhile. Thank you for showing up—not just for the game, but for our charities and for one another. Together, you made this community something truly special.
I couldn’t possibly speak about our charitable work without acknowledging Sinead and Liam Ellison. Managing multiple charities would have been impossible without them. Their input was extraordinary, and their unflagging support—despite their travels—has meant more than words can express.
A huge thank you to all our group coordinators, the true anchors of our week:
🀄 Mondays became something to look forward to across three locations.
My appreciation to Jessica and Martina from Whitefield Mahjong, and to Jiab for taking such wonderful care of the beginners there.
The same gratitude goes to Rita and Ajitha from Northern Lights, whose contribution to their charity grew tremendously last year.
Renuu, who started our Indiranagar Mahjong group in August, built something strong and vibrant that will only continue to grow.
🀄 Tuesdays at Toscano Mahjong quickly became our fastest-growing—and most fun—community. Susan, Elena, and Seetha, you were invaluable in making it such a joy to attend and manage.
🀄 Wednesdays at The Welcome Hotel, Central Bangalore, remained the home of our more experienced players, who generously passed on their knowledge to newcomers. A special thank you to Camilla, Chiyo, Anu, Radhika, Elena, Sinead, and Sue, who gave up their own day of play to step in and teach newcomers—you made a real difference.
Fridays were our “rest day”—though hardly restful! A time when teachers came together for competitive play, great food, and a little sparkling wine to kick off the weekend just right. Thank you for making it so easy—and so enjoyable—for me to host you each week.
Sue David, went above and beyond to secure great locations around Bangalore for our games. Thank you for sharing your contacts and strengthening our community - I really appreciate it.
And of course, Carla - always on the hunt for beads to make our now-famous mahjong bracelets. Thank you for donating them; they've turned into a fantastic fundraiser!
I must also include Lin in my 2025 appreciation list. Her help with mahjong books, thoughtful suggestions, hand critiques, and timely support came exactly when I needed them most. We’re all looking forward to the Phuket trip in March, which she has so beautifully arranged—we’ll celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Horse and bring back all that it symbolises: forward energy, vitality, and movement.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. Here’s to another year of tiles, togetherness, generosity, and growth.

Wonderful wise words Hazel! I cannot express how Mahjong has anchored my turbulent travelling life and kept me sane in terms of giving me “me time”. Thank you thank you thank you to you all and best wishes for 2026.
